Been going out constantly the past few days, need some time to just sit at home and be a bum!
I've been thinking though, and would like to hear from your opinions about something:
It deals with the clashing ideas that I'm sure we've all stumbled upon in our times of designing and being creative. But how do you feel about it when you've thought of something that you want to do; the idea, but kept it quiet, and then you see someone else who had the same idea as you. Firstly I guess if that's the situation, then your idea is not as original as you might have thought, but would you continue to use that idea even if other people seeing it would think you stole it or would you go ahead and change it?
Anyways, hope everyone has a good and well deserved break!
- peace.

i had an idea like that, and then i realized that if someone else had it, its not as original and probably derived or inspired closely by something commonly existing, so i just abandon it as something used too much by too many people, however much i wouldnt like it.

But Paul Rand had an interesting saying he goes "don't try to be original, just try to be good" - because originality is really hard nowadays. I was watching Ghost Town last night, and there were a few scenes that I could predict as a twist to surprise the viewers that were anticipating the normal ways of storytelling. Does that still count as original though? I found it clever, for the way they did it, but it was obvious to me.
The thing is though, I know that originality is really good, because it gives a breathe of fresh air, but what about doing a really good job out of an idea that has been done before? Your thoughts?

Though, if you heard one of your friend (it doesn't really matter if it was a friend or not) is doing something similar to you, and you two never spoke of it before, would you continue to do what you had planned?
Because, in this situation, it's not seeing something somewhere and then thinking "Ah, I could do that".

generally, if say i have an idea for an animation, there is a very low chance that u are gona have the same storyline and characters as me, but say it is set on a highway and the character is driving a sports car, and your one is also set on a highway and you character is driving a car. what i would do is i'd make sure i keep as close to my original idea as possible to avoid influences. if you showed me your sketches and drawings, and i would find them similar to my own, i would probably try to make mine better then yours lol.
